Vancouver Fo Guang Shan Temple Completes $50,000 Donation for Richmond Hospital’s Yurkovich Family Pavilion

RICHMOND, BC – Five years ago, the Vancouver Fo Guang Shan Temple in Richmond made a pledge to donate $50,000 to Richmond Hospital Foundation’s ACT NOW Campaign for the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, new acute care tower at Richmond Hospital. This past month, they completed their final donation of $10,000 – a generous gesture that will help launch a new era of health care in Richmond.

“We believe that a healthier community starts with thinking good thoughts, speaking good words, and doing good deeds,” shares Venerable Chueh Chu, Abbess of the temple. “With aging infrastructure and increased needs from the community, we recognize there are limitations in providing the best care for patients. We are happy to contribute to the new acute care tower, which will bring much-needed improvements to patient care and health care in Richmond.”

The Vancouver Fo Guang Shan Temple, along with its affiliated organizations Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Vancouver and the Vancouver International Buddhist Progress Society, have been supporting Richmond Hospital Foundation for over 20 years.

“The Yurkovich Family Pavilion at Richmond Hospital is made possible thanks to many individuals, families and community organizations, such as the Vancouver Fo Guang Shan Temple, coming together to raise funds for the new acute care tower,” explains Spencer Gall, Richmond Hospital Foundation’s Chief Philanthropy Officer. “Thank you to Vancouver Fo Guang Shan Temple for helping us transform health care in Richmond for years to come.”

The Yurkovich Family Pavilion will enable enhanced and increased health services to address the growing needs of the Richmond community including a new emergency department, more operating rooms, single occupancy patient rooms and a new medical imaging centre. The original Richmond Hospital tower, which opened in 1966, will be replaced when the Yurkovich Family Pavilion opens.
